【Workshop Announcement】Online Synchronous Faculty Development Seminar: Masa’opo: From Seeing to Accompanying, Walking Together Through Gathering — Journeying Through College Life with Indigenous Students,
Dear Faculty Members,
To enhance cultural sensitivity and foster an inclusive environment on campus, the Teaching and Learning Resources Center and the Indigenous Student Resource Center (ISRC) are co-hosting an online faculty development seminar.
We are honored to invite Associate Professor Wen-Hui Chang from the Department of Applied Foreign Languages at Chung Yuan Christian University, who also serves as Director of the university’s Indigenous Student Resource Center, to share her expertise.
Event Information
Seminar Highlights
1. Cultural Adaptation and Cultural Safety: Analyzing the current state of cultural adaptation and the practical challenges faced by Indigenous college students on campus, and exploring how to build a welcoming environment with a sense of "cultural safety," laying a foundation of understanding and empathy for accompanying students.
2. Four Dimensions of Support: Presenting entry points for guidance across four key areas—learning adaptation, daily life care, cultural identity, and career exploration—to respond comprehensively to students’ needs and help them draw on their cultural strengths and career advantages.
3. Resource Integration and Shared Practice: Mapping how on- and off-campus counseling and financial aid resources (such as the Indigenous Student Resource Center and government programs) can be integrated and connected, and, through practical case studies and a reflection-sharing competition, turning mentoring experiences into practical knowledge that can be passed on.
